Who Are We?
We are a self-funded group of volunteers who take our specifically
trained friendly pets, to visit frail and challenged adults and
children, to offer mental, physical, emotional and social stimulation.
Where Do We Visit?
We currently visit children and adults in nursing homes, retirement
villages, day care centers, children's hospitals and challenged
individuals in private homes.
What Training Do Our People and Pet Visitors
Receive?
All pets are assessed by a veterinarian for healthiness, a sound
temperament and basic obedience. Our two-legged volunteers take
a correspondence course based on safe interaction with frail adults
and children, with a pet. The course includes a foundation in the
various illnesses and conditions challenged people experience and
how best to communicate with them.
After the course, the volunteers accompany experienced volunteers
until they have reached an efficient and professional standard.
They then receive a 'pets as therapy' volunteer accreditation certificate.
Community Spirited Sponsors Needed To
Sponsor Facilities!
We are all volunteers and no wages are paid. We need an income
to meet our pets as therapy program's expenses. Any and/or all profit
is kept within the program. Our visit fee is $45.00 per visit. We
